Third Week in Lent

This odd poem comes to the people of God, sitting in exile in Babylon.

It begins with a summons, “HO!” – an imitation of the call of a street vendor.

In this poem, the street vendor is the Lord God.

It is a call to give up Babylonian junk food.

It is a call for us, who work so hard for that which does not satisfy.

FREE BREAD!  FREE WINE!

“The gifts of God for the people of God!”

We help to bring God’s comfort, healing and renewal to those affected by disasters.  And when the dust settles and the headlines change, we stay to provide ongoing assistance to those in need.

• All God’s Children Wednesday Worship is a weekly worship gathering at Zion. It begins with a simple supper served at 6:00 pm followed by worship at 6:30-7:00 in the Atrium. The format of the service follows our Lutheran tradition [Gathering, Word, Meal, Sending] and engages in ways that are child friendly. All are welcome. Invite your neighbor. This midweek worship is for children of all ages.

ZPAK - Zion Parents and Kids Playgroup

From Seder to Eucharist The Passover; 

An observance of the Paschal Meal from the Christian perspective. 

As you will see, the Passover is a celebration of freedom: first, the freedom of God’s people of the Old Testament from slavery in Egypt; second, the conviction that all people ought to be free; and, third, the freedom we experience in the remembrance of the forgiveness we receive in our Lord’s “Last Supper.” Our participation in the Passover fellowship will help us to understand and appreciate our connection in God’s history of salvation from Abraham and Sarah to the present. 

Please join us on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at 5p.m. (Terrace Room) for Zion’s Annual Seder Meal. View from the Pew:

Traveling to another Olympic Games forced me to miss my weekly small group gathering at Zion, while appreciating the presence of another small group. 

Each Wednesday morning that went by while I was in Vancouver caused me to reflect on how important the Men’s Breakfast Bible Study is to me, in the interest of fellowship and support. In turn, having two co-workers from The Salt Lake Tribune with me in covering the Games was very helpful. Now, sharing a hotel room with two other guys for 19 nights has its disadvantages, but navigating the Olympic schedule together and sharing the whole experience created a feeling that I was not in this alone. 

It made realize how important Zion’s small group ministry can be. Such opportunities are equally valuable to newcomers and long-time members, I believe. No matter how comfortable we may be in our church home, there’s still something to be said for being part of a smaller group where we can share of ourselves and give and receive support. It takes some degree of commitment and effort, but the results can be very worthwhile, even necessary to deal with everything that life brings. 

So I do recommend that all of us find a way to become involved in this ministry, and there’s always a spot available on Wednesday mornings.
