We will be selling Christmas Trees (Noble Fir trees in the 6-8 foot range) this year as a youth fundraiser.
Starting November 1st we will begin to take pre-orders until November 21st.

Zion with other Lutheran churches
We will be competing for the Turkey Bowl Trophy in a variety of fun sporting events with a slight twist to them all. Get your team ready to compete against other Lutheran churches in the Salt lake City area.
The family of Bob Erdman would like to thank the congregation for the beautiful memorial celebration and the delicious luncheon that was provided after the service. Please join us on Thursday, November 17th beginning at 7pm, when Marilyn Johnson presents “The Core Drug Endangered Children’s Community Awareness Program”. The program was developed by the National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children. There are several certified trainers in Utah and Marilyn Johnson is one of them. The program consists of a PowerPoint presentation which will last about 90 minutes. It helps people to understand the issues:
• The risks and actual dangers that illegal drug activities present to children
• Understand the long-term needs of drug endangered children
• Understand we all play a role in intervention and prevention
• Understand the broad concepts of a collaborative response

All Saints Day. On this day our minds are filled with memories of loved ones who have died, not only in the past year but long ago. We close our eyes and see them still, and try to remember the sound of their voices. We remember the stories, which become a sacred form of thanksgiving we offer back to God.
We wait for names to be read aloud in All Saints worship. When the Gospel is read from the Sermon on the Mount, one passage seems to stand out from the rest: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Then the Table before us becomes the Word, where the Holy Meal is shared — and the distance between heaven and earth becomes thin. I feel like I should remove my shoes. This is holy ground, where we stand with God in our deepest pain and in our deepest joy.
Even through our tears of sorrow, we are blessed and comforted. We remember Jesus’ promise, “I go to prepare a place for you.” Then, “we do this in remembrance of him.” What do we do? Following the rich cadence of our Eucharistic liturgy, “we give thanks at all times and in all places” because there is no time and no place that the power of the Gospel cannot reach to comfort and bring life.
All are welcome to remember loved ones as we remember God’s promise of resurrection life and peace in special worship.

Meet Haruhito Miyagi, assistant organist for a season. Mr. Miyagi is currently working towards a PhD in music composition at the University of Utah. He holds bachelors and masters degrees in organ performance from BYU and Notre Dame, respectively, and his résumé includes numerous credits as organist, pianist, teacher, lecturer, conductor, and composer. By the way, he is giving an all-Liszt organ recital at Libby Gardner Hall on the U of U campus October 16th at 7:30 pm.Mr. Miyagi is a personal friend of our regular and long-time organist, David Chamberlin, who is delighted to share his position about half of the time for the rest of the calendar year. During this time, Mr. Chamberlin will be working practically every weekday as an organ builder on the new organ at St. Mark’s Cathedral downtown, and making the commute from American Fork six days a week just seemed a bit much. Mr. Chamberlin just hopes the people of Zion won’t be too let down when he starts playing every Sunday again!

Macedonia Project - Your Table Is Ready
Rocky Mountain Synod congregations will be partnering with sister congregations and leaders to make this a vibrant and effective ministry. Of the 18 ELCA grants, the unique approach of the Rocky Mountain Synod focuses on giving and generosity as a faith practice of households.
We have great hope that the Macedonia Project will:
Grow a spirit of joyful generosity that strengthens giving from households to local congregations, to the Rocky Mountain Synod and the broader ministries of the ELCA.
Grow faithful stewards in our homes and congregations through Bible study, prayer, cross-generational conversation and effective household faith practices.

Hooray! The first phase of the new landscaping is 98% completed.
I hope everyone loves the new look. It took a lot of work from a lot of people. I want to thank everyone who helped make it all possible by donating their time, energy, and money. Thank you so very much!
Now it is time to start planning for next spring when work on the East and North side will get started. Please plan on being part of this effort by continuing to volunteer with the work and donating to the Garden Fund (use the Special Offering envelopes and write “Garden Fund” on it).
Before you know it there will be signs appearing for the 2nd Annual Garden Party Fundraiser. It will be at The Cottonwood Trio Restaurant again in early spring. Please plan on attending this very fun event. You will enjoy a fabulous meal, door prizes, great company plus the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping make this landscaping project a success.
