Confirmation Happenings
Confirmation ministry is a pastoral and educational ministry of the church that helps the baptized through Word and Sacrament to identify more deeply with the Christian community and participate more fully in its mission.
We believe to help our Confirmands “identify more deeply with the Christian community” requires participation from the community. Please pray for our Confirmands - Claire, Glenn and Preston. Please consider providing lunch or participating in a calendar session on a Sunday to support pastoral education with the students following worship. For more information, contact the church office or Marci Hall (raskhal96@gmail.com).
FROM THE CONFIRMATION RETREAT-APRIL 20-21, 2012:
What did the confirmands think about their faith journey?
Glenn Livengood: “I was surprised how much doubt is a part of confirmation, not just me, but
for everyone….I had never thought of outdoor water fountains as a remembrance of our
Baptism before, and it was interesting to see Pastor Steve’s view about it.”
Claire Nelson: “I was struck by doubt. I never before felt that my doubts about God could be Okay.
It always seemed shameful for me to doubt. I like knowing things for certain, but God isn’t like that. He leaves a gap that must be crossed in our minds-a leap of faith.”
Preston Sant: “My weekend was great because I got to hang out with my church friends. The other reason was that I got to see Hugo, the movie…I got to stay in a nice church for one night.”
Alexa’s Rude, Elim: “Over the weekend, I’ve realized that it’s just not about confirmation; it’s about our love for Jesus. I had so much fun learning about Jesus. I learned about 3 new people from Zion-Claire is really cool! All together, we each represent a different piece of His puzzle. I hope that I can come back next year with more confirmation students from my congregation.”
A Celebration of Thanksgiving
Installation of Lisa Mensinger,
Director of Youth Ministries
Save the date: Sunday, April 22, 2012
Special 10:30 worship with reception following
Thanks be to God!
We have embraced a vision for ministry among youth, so that each student, young adult, household, parent, and caring adult may be nurtured and equipped to grow into an active, living faith in Jesus Christ.
Thanks be to God!
Through the Holy Spirit, we have received a gift for this ministry. Lisa Mensinger has “grown into” this role, moving from “interim” to “Director of Youth Ministries” (¾ time).
Thanks be to God!
God has given Lisa many gifts for this ministry. Her heart overflows in love for youth and for all who are networked to nurture and support their growth in faith. She provides competent leadership, promotes service, and strives for excellence. Lisa’s joy-filled presence helps us all to catch the Spirit’s presence.
Thanks be to God!
“But we have this treasure in clay jars; so that it may be made clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us. ……… so that grace, as it extends to more and more people, may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God” (2 Corinthians 4).
Adult Education Sunday Mornings in March:
Lament often sounds like despair, the opposite of faith. Yet Martin Luther taught that it is precisely in the places where we least expect to find God, in suffering, pain, disaster, catastrophe - and in the cross - that God is clearly present. All are welcome to continue this study which began in January with Pr. Steve Klemz. Meet at 9:15am in the atrium.

Prayer Partners in Christ
There are now 84 students enrolled in Sunday School and each student has been paired with an adult Prayer Partner in our congregation. The recent Prayer Partner Meet & Greet event allowed many partners to get to know one another. Every student in attendance already knew the name of his or her Prayer Partner!
Have you met your Prayer Partner yet? The partnership list is posted in the narthex. If you have been unable to meet your partner at church feel free to ask for help in finding your partner. Parents may help their children with introductions at church. You are also welcome to send your partner a card or other greeting to introduce yourself to your Prayer Partner. The church office will help you with contact information if needed.
Please continue to hold your Prayer Partners in prayer.
