Prayer Partners in Christ
There are now 84 students enrolled in Sunday School and each student has been paired with an adult Prayer Partner in our congregation. The recent Prayer Partner Meet & Greet event allowed many partners to get to know one another. Every student in attendance already knew the name of his or her Prayer Partner!
Have you met your Prayer Partner yet? The partnership list is posted in the narthex. If you have been unable to meet your partner at church feel free to ask for help in finding your partner. Parents may help their children with introductions at church. You are also welcome to send your partner a card or other greeting to introduce yourself to your Prayer Partner. The church office will help you with contact information if needed.
Please continue to hold your Prayer Partners in prayer.

The Honorable Gary Herbert, Office of the Governor
In our response to God’s love as religious leaders in Utah, we are compelled to welcome newcomers and advocate for comprehensive immigration reform. We have seen the negative consequences of a broken immigration system. Countless families are torn apart and communities are living in a state of fear. We believe that we need to bring undocumented immigrants out of the shadows and provide them with an earned pathway to permanent residency, to protect family unity, and ensure the just and equitable treatment of all people. We call upon the United States Congress and the administration to pass and enact into law fair and humane immigration legislation.
We are frustrated by the lack of movement on comprehensive immigration reform and we recognize significant challenges the state of Utah faces in confronting the broken immigration system. Still, we are deeply concerned about the impact certain proposed enforcement measures would have on families and communities.
Instead of creating heightened immigration enforcement laws, we ask that you join us in addressing the United States Congress and the administration to advocate for comprehensive immigration reform.
Thank you for your public service. Please know that we hold you in prayer as you work to promote the general welfare of all people in Utah.

Sunday School Workshop Rotation model
Our Sunday School Workshop Rotation model derives from the Spark Curriculum. Spark has been designed by children’s education experts to accommodate all the different ways children learn about their faith. Some learn best through hands-on activities; others through writing and reading activities. Still others learn best through a combination of activities, and this is the approach Zion engages.
How it works…
The Sunday School team selects the Bible stories and three workshops for each story. Children read the story from the Spark Bible and study the lesson on the first week, then re-read the story and learn about it in new ways as they participate in workshops over the three following weeks.
The workshop rotation model is for children in Kindergarten to Grade 6 and is focused on a rich Bible story or group of Bible stories about particular characters. Workshop rotations include: Art, Bible Skills and Games, Cooking, Creative Drama, Science, and Video.
Children interact and engage with the Bible.
Children open the Bible and engage with God’s Word during each week’s study. Age-specific Bible goals set for each class help ensure children interact and engage with their Bibles in age appropriate ways.
K-1: Present ways for children to relate with Bible characters and put themselves in the Bible story.
Grades 2-3: Present ways for children to comprehend stories, identify with characters, and apply an action they can take in their own lives. Present ways for children to understand the structure of the Bible, and be able to navigate within the Bible to find stories they know or want to explore.
Grades 4-6: Present ways for children to know the Bible well enough to dig further into the stories, to interpret and determine ways to apply and compare Bible text to their own lives.
Praising, worshipping and learning of God’s love through music.
Complementing this engaging Sunday School experience, is Zion’s wonderful music program. The children’s choirs and youth ensembles at Zion are based on the Orff-Schulwerk approach instructed by highly regarded musician and teacher, Susan Swidnicki. Orff combines singing, percussion instruments (xylophones, glockenspiels, drums, etc.), movement, rhythmic speech and improvisation to teach music in a joyful, child friendly and creative way.
